of the year you said you expected president obama to be re-elected. do you still believe that? >> yes. yes. i really do. i think that he was maybe two scores up as i heard on "squawk box" this morning. maybe now it is only one. i still think in terms of looking at these battleground states and where he appears to have a competitive advantage, he's still ahead. >> you were extremely accurate in your overall call, at least as of this date, of how the market was going to perform. you said about 15% in 2012. that's about where we are. is now a good time to invest? and then what's going to happen in 2013. >> i would be much more cautious now. we divided our analysis of the market into two parts. there's the things people normally talk about, growth rates and earnings and the economy, but also the discount rate. the interest rate plus this other fear or uncertainty factor. the fed's actions did reduce the uncertainty factor. they reduced the liquidity that took some of that fear away. but it's not really transferring into growth. if you do the high school long division dividing risk into growth, i

. >> here is what democratic strategist hillary rosen told me earlier this morning about the president's performance at that debate, which was panned by both critics and supporters. so listen to this and i want to get your reaction. >> you know, president obama didn't do so badly. he was much quieter, he was more thoughtful, he got a lot of facts out. it was just -- when push comes to shove, the policies for president obama, looking to support education, not wanting to see the health care cuts, those policies -- supporting women -- are much more popular than mitt romney's policies. i think that the obama team is going to double down on that over the next few weeks. >> brett, your reaction to that? >> well, you know, on wednesday night, those policies didn't look so good. a debate's about a competition of ideas, especially a political debate. so the president's got to be able to defend those policies if they truly are superior, and on wednesday night he didn't do a very good job of doing that. >> columnist david brooks and peggy noonan praised romney's performance after its missteps in

, on the morning debate session. i'm sorry. i had to do it. >> puns aside, before we start focusing on tomorrow night in den denver, i want to look back at romney and obama. romney, maybe appearing a little more amped up than the president in these sxmexamples. let's watch and talk on the other side. >> you have a problem with al w allowing someone to finish speaking. i suggest if you want to become president of the united states, you got to let both people speak. let me speak. >> at the time when the war started you said it would be quick and easy. you said you knew where the weapons of mass destruction were, you were wrong. you said we would be greeted as liberators. you were wrong. >> perhaps the president more professori professorial, romney more excitable. do you think we'll see that tomorrow night in denver? >> reporter: i think so. if you listen to both campaigns, i think both campaigns have been advising candidates to work on their own individual liabilities if you want to call them that going into the debates. romney, cording to aides, has been told to work on a more one on one debate
